Dark Age by Pierce Brown

Book Description

For a decade Darrow led a revolution against the corrupt color-coded Society. Now, outlawed by the very Republic he founded, he wages a rogue war on Mercury in hopes that he can still salvage the dream of Eo. But as he leaves death and destruction in his wake, is he still the hero who broke the chains? Or will another legend rise to take his place?

Lysander au Lune, the heir in exile, has returned to the Core. Determined to bring peace back to mankind at the edge of his sword, he must overcome or unite the treacherous Gold families of the Core and face down Darrow over the skies of war-torn Mercury.

But theirs are not the only fates hanging in the balance.

On Luna, Mustang, Sovereign of the Republic, campaigns to unite the Republic behind her husband. Beset by political and criminal enemies, can she outwit her opponents in time to save him?

Once a Red refugee, young Lyria now stands accused of treason, and her only hope is a desperate escape with unlikely new allies.

Abducted by a new threat to the Republic, Pax and Electra, the children of Darrow and Sevro, must trust in Ephraim, a thief, for their salvation—and Ephraim must look to them for his chance at redemption.

As alliances shift, break, and re-form—and power is seized, lost, and reclaimed—every player is at risk in a game of conquest that could turn the Rising into a new Dark Age.

Maude’s Book Club Questions for ‘Dark Age’ by Pierce brown

  • How would you prepare someone starting Dark Age

  • What can we expect in Lightbringer?

  • Do you find the need to one up the previous bar you yourself set?

  • News ways to bring in sci-fi technology:

  • Were they Lyria’s brothers?

  • How do you really feel about the heated responses people have over your choices in the book?

  • When did you land your decision to kill Ephraim?

  • I’ve noticed people say they enjoy Dark Age a lot MORE the second read through, even though its the heaviest book in the series, Why do you think this is?

  • Out of all the deaths that occur in this book (spoiler: Sefi, Ephraim, Ulysses, Alexander), which one was personally the hardest?

  • Which character have you enjoyed writing the MORE they stuck around?

  • When writing a new book, do you write it one part after the other or do you write one character’s POV and then go back and do the next? Something else?  How often do you have to rewrite previous sections to fit something you’ve written for a later part? - Question from our member Sidi

  • The chapter, Sevro’s Palace, reminded us of his history and that of Darrow as well how their different choices altered their respective paths. It was also hilarious, touching, and strengthened Darrow’s resolve in his future decisions. Since Sevro was absent for almost all of the book, was this chapter a result of wanting to maintain his presence in the book? - Question from our member Vaidin
