‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ Courts Breakdown

We know that Fantasy readers LOVE maps. Any map found when opening a book for the first time fills our hearts with joy. It draws the reader directly into the world and gives much-needed structure in visualizing where these characters reside. The map in A Court of Thorns and Roses shows where all the Faes live and the breakdown of the Courts.

There are seven courts and the mortal lands around the area. We do know the Faes and Mortals do not see eye-to-eye. The Mortals believe that the Faes are horrific after murdering others. And the Faes believe that the Mortals are horrible for that reason. The narrative that suits them best, and the more Feyre learns about the Faes, the more she understands the divide and the miscommunication.

List of Courts With Their Rulers And Symbols

Seasonal Courts

  • Spring Court: ruled by Tamlin and has a blooming rose as its symbol.

  • Summer Court ruled by Tarquin and has an ocean wave as its symbol.

  • Autumn Court ruled by Beron and has fall leaves as its symbol.

  • Winter Court, ruled by Kallias, has ice shards in the shape of a wolf as its symbol.

What is so lovely about the seasonal courts is that the magic from the High Lords is linked to each season. Tamlin, Tarquin, Beron and Kallias have alternative magic with their regular designated powers.

Solar Courts

  • Dawn Court, ruled by Thesan, has the sun as its symbol rising between the mountains.

  • Day Court, ruled by Helion, has the symbol of the sun.

  • Night Court ruled by Rhysand and Feyre. It is also divided into The Court of Nightmares and The Court of Dreams. The symbol for both is a mountain dotted with three stars. Which symbolizes the stars in the darkness.

The Solar Courts are all ruled by the laws of nature. They operate based on the rotation of the Sun. Beauty can be found in the darkness, and it is said that the Night Court captures the beauty that no one sees in other Courts.
