What is ‘Daisy Jones & the Six’ aBOUT?

This a gripping novel about the whirlwind rise of an iconic 1970s rock group and their beautiful lead singer, revealing the mystery behind their infamous breakup. The six had already established each of their places in the band, and all had to deal with Billy Dunne’s crazy lifestyle together. Once Billy cleans up; he’s torn between his family life and an intriguing lead singer called Daisy Jones. The novel explores life on the road, the hardships of addiction, and different romantic journeys for the characters.

Who is in ‘Daisy Jones & the six’?

  • Riley Keough plays Daisy Jones. Jones just wants to make music and she wants people to hear her lyrics. She believes that she is a strong songwriter and that men always take her one-liners away. She could revamp a chorus for a random guy she’s seeing and he wouldn’t credit her. She could do something like drink champagne and coffee at the same time, some executive would find it endearing and he would put it in a movie without crediting her. Jones didn’t want to be anyone’s muse, she wanted to be an artist; the creator of it all. Once Jones collaborates with Billy Dunne of “The Six”, the dynamic of the band starts to shift because Jones knows how to change things to work in her favour.

  • Sam Claflin plays Billy Dunne. The way Billy is described in the book is like your standard rockstar. He’s a wounded soul, looking for love in all the wrong places until he meets the love of his life Camila (Camila Morrone). Even though Billy is meeting girls backstage because of his seductive presence on stage, his heart is with Camila. He calls her every night and she ends up staying with him longer than she ever intended. The one thing that does give Billy trouble is his alcoholism and his drug addiction. It’s the 70s and if you’re a rockstar you’re most likely doing blow and drinking hard liquor before and after the show. Billy grew up without a father so that fatherly energy has never been prevalent in his life. So when he finds out he is going to be a father, it sets him on a downward spiral as he has no idea how to be one.

  • Suki Waterhouse plays Karen Sirko. She is a wicked keyboardist who doesn’t get taken seriously for her work because she’s a woman. She dresses in jeans and a turtleneck to get executives to pay attention to her music and not to her body. She makes these conscious choices because she wants to be part of the industry. Karen is the only girl in ‘The Six’ and she has found it difficult to deal with Billy. She became very close with Camila, so to see him spiralling as a band member and friend put her in a weird position.

  • Camila Morrone plays Camila Dunne. The way Billy sees Camila is so different than how others view her. The rest of the bandmates think Camila is too good for Billy because of how headstrong she is. She is the most grounded of all the characters and that’s essentially what draws her to Billy. It’s also the age-old story about knowing someone isn’t good for you but you pursue them and love them anyway. Love isn’t supposed to hurt but in the case of Camila and Billy, their love was meant to be.

  • Will Harrison plays Graham Dunne. Graham is Billy’s younger brother and lead guitarist of ‘The Six’. What happens with Graham is that he was always in the shadow of Billy but he never really cared. He saw his older brother as this god on stage and loved him unconditionally. However, because they never had a father, Billy became that figure for Graham. They both didn’t know how their brotherly dynamic was supposed to work without a man to guide them and have that masculine energy surrounding them, but Graham and Billy tried their best. Graham also had no idea how to watch over Billy because even though he was his brother, he still felt like he was lost in the world with no guidance.
