The Goodreads Choice Awards 2023 Final Round Nominations
It’s almost the end of the year, and it has been a wonderful year because it has been filled with books. The Goodreads Choice Awards have begun, and their opening round is officially open for voting. They cover each genre, but here at MBC, our focus is fantasy and science fiction. Fortunately, those genres flourished this year because of some incredible new releases.
The final round for the Goodreads Choice Awards is now open! Some of the books we have read have made it through the next round and we could not be happier. If you haven’t read the books listed below, then it’s time to add them to your TBR for next year! All the books nominated below have impacted this year; we can’t wait to read some of them as a community.
BEST ROMANTASY OF 2023
If you are a ROMANTASY truther, the books on this list are already on your TBR, or you’ve already read them. The one book that has taken the world by storm in 2023 is Fourth Wing. Rebecca Yarros did not realize the hit she had on her hands until BookTok got a hold of it, and word of mouth made it popular. There was no way our book club would miss out on the fantasy book of the year! Not only did we cover Fourth Wing in September, but we are currently reading Iron Flame as our BONUS BOOK!

Best Fantasy of 2023
The one author that Maude Garrett has consistently praised is V.E. Schwab. After she read the life-changing The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue she has read every single series by Schwab. In light of her new series The Fragile Threads of Power, Garrett interviewed Schwab to get all the details from her entire bookography. It was such a wonderful conversation between the two of them.

Best Science Fiction 2023
If you’re new to MBC we have been on the Red Rising train since the beginning of 2023. We've enjoyed having Pierce Brown on the show to discuss his series with us time and time again. We are in the middle of Iron Gold now for Book Club and will continue reading the series in 2024 with Dark Age and Light Bringer in the first quarter.
