At a local fair, Rachel unexpectedly crosses paths with Sean, a familiar face from her past. The encounter, laced with awkward tension, takes a harrowing turn when Sean sends her a cryptic message, begging to meet. When Rachel arrives, she's met with a chilling scene- Sean, deceased from an apparent overdose. But the presence of his baby at the scene whispers a different tale, one Rachel is determined to uncover.

The investigation takes a sinister turn as she discovers Sean's secret dealings. Heated confrontations, clandestine exchanges with ranch owners, and a rising body count point to a puzzle far more intricate than a straightforward overdose.

As Rachel and her team navigate a treacherous web of lies, they must outwit a ruthless adversary whose reach extends far beyond their city. The stakes rise when the lives of those closest to her hang in the balance, forcing Rachel to question just how far she's willing to go to unmask the truth and deliver justice.

The Doom of Odin by Scott Oden

Synopsis:

As the Black Death rampages across Europe, two creatures of the Elder World clash over the rotting corpse of Christendom in Scott Oden's third book in the Grimnir Series

Skrælingr. Orcnéas. Fomoraig. He is Grimnir . . .

For over a century, he has tracked the dragon, Níðhöggr -- the Malice-Striker -- from the shores of Lake Vänern, across the Baltic Sea, through Russia, and down into the Mediterranean; he has hounded the wyrm from Old Muscovy to Messina. And finally, to the Eternal City -- to Rome, itself.

And outside Rome, on a cold November night in 1347 AD, on the ruins of the ancient Appian Way, Grimnir’s saga comes crashing to an end. A crossbow bolt, loosed in terror, slays him out of hand. It is a mundane finale to a life spent hip-deep in bloodshed and slaughter, surrounded by steel and savagery and the sorcery of the Elder World.

Could Kara’s murder have been a case of mistaken identity?

Bonfire Night by Anna Bliss

London, 1936: At twenty-one, Kate Grifferty is a press photographer in a Fleet Street agency, an unusual job for a young woman. While his idealistic brother is eager to go to Spain and join the fight for the Republic, David knows his path at home, fulfilling the expectations of his profession and his family.

Kate neither expects nor wants to be any man’s wife, hampered by convention. And though she and David are both outsiders, as war looms, other differences between them are thrown into sharp relief.

Brighton, 1940: Catastrophe forces Kate to flee London and the onslaught of war finds her working at her sister’s seaside boarding house, while David tends to patients at a busy London hospital as the Blitz rages. But Kate’s challenges and disappointments have only deepened her desire to capture images of life unfurling around her, the beauty and violence, struggles and surprising joys. And soon fate and ambition will align, providing her with the chance to make her mark at last . . .
