Ranking The ‘Bridgerton’ Couples

It may seem like the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn was written decades ago, but Quinn wrote The Duke and I in the year 2000. Since then, romance fans have loved the sequence of books as each book highlights a different love story.

The Bridgerton siblings all find their spotlight in each novel. Quinn wanted to make her characters memorable, so she named them in order of the alphabet. It’s quite cheeky and very effective. Now with the hype of the Netflix Original Series fans of the show have turned to the books.

Julia Quinn’s ability to write a sweet love story with such character depth and spicy moments between them is unmatched. It’s easy to get through one of her books because of her love for these characters. Of course, some love stories are better than others, but that comes down to romantic preference.

Are you more of a friends-to-lovers fan or long for a meet-cute?

Here is how I would rank the Bridgerton couples.

  1. Kate Sheffield and Anthony Bridgerton

Enemies-To-Lovers

The premise for The Viscount Who Loved set Viscount Anthony Bridgerton up to be one of the best characters in the series. Anthony was a rake and it’s hard to turn a rake into a husband as Kate would say.

Even though Anthony planned on marrying Kate’s younger sister, she stopped at nothing to protect her sister. This enemies-to-lovers story was engaging because of the constant bickering and fierce passion between them.

2. Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington

Friends-To-Lovers

When it comes to Colin and Penelope as the third youngest siblings, they tend to blend into the shadows. They don’t have too much responsibility and can roam freely.

Penelope has always been in love with Colin and all it takes is for one kiss to change his perspective on her. His whole life has changed when he realizes the woman he has in front of her. And he would do anything for her.

The anticipation of Colin seeing her in a romantic way made for such a thrilling relationship. Penelope deserved a love story that was all-consuming such as this one.

3. Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Bassett

Fake-Dating

Although the trope has always been one of my favourites, the way it was executed between Simon and Daphne was different. Quinn added depth to their characters and the romance. They were playful and also laid the ground work for friendship at the base.

Their romance became a slow-burn and it’s because they battled with their feelings for one another. The more they got to know each other, the more they began to open up. It’s an overwhelming feeling and Quinn wrote it beautifully.

4. Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Beckett

Fairytale Meet-Cute

After watching the series, Benedict Bridgerton is rising to become the favourite brother.

In his love story, he encounters Sophie Beckett at Lady Bridgerton’s Masquerade Ball. The story plays out much like Cinderella and has Benedict as the ultimate Prince Charming. He becomes a man-possessed with finding who the mystery girl is.

5. Francesca Bridgerton and Michael Sterling

Love-At-First-Sight

Michael Sterling is known as an infamous rake in the ton. And when Francesca marries his cousin, that is the first time he laid eyes on her. He keeps his feelings a secret to honour and respect his cousin, but their friendship grows because she is within the family.

As time passes, their relationship grows stronger and he has been there for her through many obstacles.

6. Eloise Bridgerton and Phillip Crane

Marriage-Of-Convenience

You read that right. Who would have thought that Eloise’s love story would be a marriage-of-convenience?

Sir Phillip had known Eloise was a spinster, and after the death of his wife he thought it would be best to marry another. He figured that she would be homely and unassuming, but Eloise is outspoken and not what he expected.

Eloise would never have thought her love story would be with a man she never met, yet she still got in that carriage to meet her “perfect match.” He forgot to mention that he had two children and that she would be quick to take on the role of a mother not only a wife.

7. Gregory Bridgerton and Lucy Abernathy

Friends-To-Lovers

Because Gregory is the last of the Bridgerton siblings he has seen an array of true love matches. Therefore, he believes in true love.

The beauty of Gregory’s story is that he believes in love so much that he will stop at nothing to get the girl of his dreams. Even if that means he has to stop a wedding. He tries to win the affection of the one girl he loves but does fall for her best friend.

8. Hyacinth Bridgerton and Gareth St. Clair

Friends-To-Lovers

Over the series Hyacinth has become more outspoken and is very bright. She knows everything about everyone. And is very observant.

The interesting part of her love story is that it all happens unexpectedly. She helps Gareth St. Clair read his family’s texts because he will inherit everything. Once they’re together, it’s not the texts that they spend time reading, but they end up getting to know each other in the process.
