What Comes After ‘Iron Flame’ by Rebecca Yarros?

Everyone has finished Iron Flame, and we eagerly await book three in The Empyrean series. There is no release date for the third book in the series…even though it did show up on Goodreads that it would be November 2024 at one time. Rebecca Yarros said she would need to take a bit more time with the third one, so naturally, we’re in for a wild ride.
After reading Iron Flame, it’s impossible to not have any theories on deck. Too much happened in Part Two of that novel and Yarros left us hanging…again. Here are some theories that have been swirling around the Internet that could come true The Empyrean Book 3.
#1: VIOLET’S second signet
While reading Iron Flame, readers got more insight into what Violet’s second signet could be. The fact that she could see and feel Liam Mairi in her presence while being on the brink of death says a lot.
The theory is that she can see those who have passed on. It’s entirely possible that her signet can be linked to an ancestor because of Tairn or even Andarna.
This would help her tap into the Scribe side of her because she would have access to years of history in Navarre. She’s not strong enough to open the channel for that yet, but it could be revealed in book three.
#2 Violet’s father is Venin
This is the most devastating theory on the Internet right now. After the way Violet had championed her father for him to end up as a Venin would be heartbreaking. The theory here is that the “stories” her father used to tell Violet about the wyvern and venin were actually about his ancestors.
He wanted to give her valuable information early on so she could keep it in her mind forever. Apart from being a Scribe and a sweet person, Violet’s father is rarely mentioned and can be considered a key element moving forward.
If Violet needs to help Xaden with his condition, her father, as a Venin, would contribute to helping Xaden.
#3 DAIN AND VIOLET WILL GROW CLOSER
In Iron Flame, Dain did redeem himself. No matter how anyone feels about him, it’s true. There has to be some way Dain and Violet get together in the third book because Xaden is Venin. And with five books in the series, the timing of it makes perfect sense.
We know that Violet is strong on her own and can only feel that much power with Xaden, but how is that bond affected by his turn to Venin? Who will Violet turn to now?
She can’t go to Brennan or Mira for this. She may need to go to a third party and bond with her childhood best friend.
Violet and Dain’s relationship can still be platonic, but I wouldn’t put it past Yarros to throw this curveball.
#4 Andarna knows how to kill Venin
We find out that Andarna has been waiting over 600 years to hatch. Conveniently, it’s Violet’s time to become a Rider, and Venin’s are popping up everywhere. There is a seventh mystery breed that is ancient lore, and Andarna suits the description of it. The timing is all there. And with Violet’s help, they would be unstoppable together. The third book will most likely be educational for the characters to learn about Venins, especially because Jack Barlowe and Xaden have switched over. The war will not start yet, but knowing Yarros, there will be plenty of twists waiting for all of us.
#5 xADEN BECOMES A GOD
This last theory comes from Empyrean Riders, and I must admit, it’s a bit of a stretch. If Yarros is building a new world with dragons bonding to their riders and magic powers coming from their connection, why would a layer of Greek mythology be added? Yarros has developed a whole new world for readers to fall in love with. It wouldn’t make sense for these characters to be linked to Gods. However, the theory is intriguing because of the length of the series. The characters could have different names and be linked to a God. The Gods have similar powers to the signets, so it could come down to finding out where these powers come from.
