What is The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson?

Our BOOK OF THE MONTH is The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson!

In case you didn’t know Maude Garrett has been a HUGE fan of his series and we’ve even covered Mistborn for book club. The Way of Kings has been on her TBR for years and she thought it would be a great idea to start this series with our wonderful community. The book was published in 2010 and has 1001 pages. We decided to split this book into two months so everyone has enough time to read it for their leisure.

Sanderson novels are filled with adventure, but there is something special about the Stormlight Archive. If you haven’t started it yet because of the page count, join our book club because we will hold you accountable! And of course, have some fun while doing it.

The Stormlight Archive

It is about an ancient legendary order of powerful magic knights that would defend the world with the heralds from a catastrophe brought on by their sworn enemies, the voidbringers. It is an epic fantasy series by Brandon Sanderson that is expected to be composed of ten books. Sanderson has said that his series are all interconnected and each series flows into the other based on time. It’s an incredible feat to have all your work live cohesively with one another so readers will feel connected no matter how many books are released. Sanderson has standalone novels, but the sagas are some of the best fantasy books created.

FUN FACTS

  • The glyphs on the cover of the books represent the order of Knights Radiant that is being investigated in that book, as the colour of the book.

  • The passages on the back covers are written by the Sleepless, who are Aimans.

  • The oldest character in the Stormlight Archive is Frost. He is immortal, but he can be killed.

  • The series will require 10 books to complete, in two 5-book arcs.

  • The fifth book in the series ‘Wind and Truth’ will be released on December 6th, 2024.

  • There are three backbone series: Dragonsteel, Mistborn, and The Stormlight Archive. Stormlight is the center while Mistborn is past, present, and future.
