Is Casting Underway For ‘Beach Read’ By Emily Henry?

In the middle of last year Maude Garrett, Amanda Tass, and Amanda Guarragi (me), all read books by Emily Henry. If you don’t follow us on Goodreads, then come on over! After reading Book Lovers, Beach Read and Happy Place, we are all awaiting the release of Funny Story in April.

On October 11th, 2022, Henry posted that the People We Meet On Vacation would be adapted, and director Brett Haley was attached to the project. In March of last year, Henry confirmed that Book Lovers would also be adapted with Aftersun producers attached and writer Sarah Heyward. Then, on April 5th, 2023, Henry posted that 20th Century would adapt Beach Read with Yulin Kuang set to direct.

It’s hard to tell which film will come to fruition first, but Henry continuously surprises readers by posting on her Instagram story. And we feel that Beach Read will be the first one with a confirmed cast.

Exhibit A:

Earlier this year, Henry posted this Instagram story with a draft of the Beach Read script. Fans of the novel (including myself) were ecstatic when she posted this on her story. Out of all the books that I’ve read by Henry, I connected with Beach Read the most. It’s a beautifully written story, with the themes of love, loss and grief that are all tied together to create one special bond. Knowing there is already a script means that casting should be underway.

Exhibit B:

Let’s call it the luck of the Irish, shall we? If you aren’t chronically online like some of us then you wouldn’t know that Ayo Edebiri has been welcomed into the Irish community as one of their own. It started as a joke at SXSW when she spoke about working on The Banshees of Inisherin as Jenny the donkey for four months, and then people blew that out of proportion.

On St. Paddy’s Day, Ayo Edebiri posted this photo with Irish-born Paul Mescal. People had questioned why they were pictured together, and shortly after, we had some answers. Not only did “The Cut” repost it, but Emily Henry did on her Instagram story.

There is no confirmation about Beach Read casting, but Exhibit A and Exhibit B can add up. Right after the script posting, Henry posts Mescal and Edebiri, so it’s safe to say they could be our Augustus and January.
