Maude’s Book Club
Book of the Month: ‘Mirrored Heavens’ by Rebecca Roanhorse
Maude Garrett has been on the Rebecca Roanhorse train for a while and last year the community enjoyed Fevered Star. MBC has waited for the cover reveal of Mirrored Heavens and now we will continue the series for our Book Club in July!
If Maude loves a series and our community enjoys it too, we always continue to dedicate a month to some of our favourites!
Bonus Book of the Month Preview: ‘Recursion’ by Blake Crouch
Maude Garrett has been such a fan of Blake Crouch and has inspired many of our community members to read his novels. He is one of the sci-fi greats and for July we will be reading Recursion.
After reading Dark Matter, which is now a series on Apple TV Plus, you will want to read everything he has ever written. Crouch can break down complex ideas and have them toy with your reality. It’s brilliant writing, and Maude is thrilled to bring the world of Crouch to our book club.
Bonus Book of the Month: ‘Under the Whispering Door’ by TJ Klune
We have all enjoyed his writing, and now we have decided to read Under the Whispering Door as a light bonus book for June. The term “light” is used loosely because Klune has a way of making everyone emotional.
For those who have read The House in the Cerulean Sea or have Under the Whispering Door on their TBR come and join us this month as we read it together!
The ‘Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow’ by Gabrielle Zevin Has Found Its Director!
Maude Garrett even interviewed her and told Zevin how much this book affected her. It’s a beautiful novel that many readers didn’t expect to love as much as they did. Zevin’s writing is a gut punch to the soul as she crafts a stunning relationship between two people.
Paramount Studios had acquired the rights to the book in 2021 before its publishing date in 2022. It has taken quite a bit of time to develop everything, news broke out over the weekend that has fans of the best-selling novel soaring.
Bonus Book of the Month: ‘Ruthless Vows’ by Rebecca Ross
Earlier this year MBC chose to read Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross in February!
The story between Iris Winnow and Roman Kitt placed our readers in a trance. The love letters expressing their innermost thoughts and feelings were magical.
Book of the Month Preview: ‘The Way of Kings’ by Brandon Sanderson
Maude Garrett has been such a fan of Brandon Sanderson over the years. MBC has even covered the Mistborn trilogy in the past. Sanderson has such a strong wit and writes his adventures beautifully. They are fully formed characters with motivations and more importantly dreams. They all overcome obstacles that help improve their perspective about themselves and how they live.
Maude’s Book Club QNA with Andy Weir
The MBC community has chosen Artemis as the bonus book for April.
We are very fortunate that Andy Weir will join us for a QnA this month! If you’re a fan of his novels, come and discuss his sci-fi novels with us.
Book of the Month Preview: ‘Dark Age’ by Pierce Brown
Hey, Howlers!
Maude Garrett has been raving about Red Rising, and our book club members have loved the second book, Golden Son. Morning Star and Iron Gold have gotten some mixed feelings from our community. This April, we head back into the universe created by Pierce Brown with Dark Age, the fifth book in the series. It was a nominee for Best Science Fiction in 2019.
Bonus Book of the Month: ‘Artemis’ by Andy Weir
Are you a fan of Andy Weir’s novels?
Well, if you are and in case you didn’t know MBC has read Project Hail Mary and The Martian for book club. The MBC community has chosen Artemis as the bonus book for April!
Here’s What We Know About ‘Onyx Storm’ by Rebecca Yarros
Rebecca Yarros dropped some of the biggest news on her Instagram about the third novel in the Empyrean series!
Is Casting Underway For ‘Beach Read’ By Emily Henry?
In the middle of last year Maude Garrett, Amanda Tass, and Amanda Guarragi (me), all read books by Emily Henry. If you don’t follow us on Goodreads, then come on over! After reading Book Lovers, Beach Read and Happy Place, we are all awaiting the release of Funny Story in April.
It’s hard to tell which film will come to fruition first, but Henry continuously surprises readers by posting on her Instagram story. And we feel that Beach Read will be the first one with a confirmed cast.
The History Behind ‘The Poppy War’ by R.F. Kuang
The Poppy War became the first notable series for R.F. Kuang as she fused historical fiction with fantasy. The series follows a young girl who chooses to become a soldier rather than be forced into an arranged marriage at fourteen.
Kuang understands the political scope and military strategy in the series because of her studies in the field. Rin possesses a thirst for knowledge because, for Rin, that is the ultimate power early on.
In a way, Rin parallels Kuang’s ability to retain all this information and usefully extract pieces that become relevant at any moment.
