Synopsis:

“The Emperor needs necromancers. The Ninth necromancer needs a swordsman. Gideon has a sword, some dirty magazines, and no more time for undead bullshit. Maude’s Book Chat ‘Gideon the Ninth’ Part 1

Talking Points

  • (18:12) When you have an audiobook narrator Maude says that they have to bring you in with their voice into the story. And unfortunately, for this novel, it wasn’t sticking for her.

  • (1:00:000 Maude pulls up some character designs for each of the houses in the novel and goes through the community to see which house they would be in.

  • (1:40:23) Maude wanted to discuss everyone’s favourite elements of this world: the fact that you could summon necromancers, the fact that every planet has a unique set of powers and culture, the fact that there is a necromancer as a cavalier.

Talking Points

  • (14:44) Jimmy said that he actually read this book in a graveyard to fully immerse himself. He then explains that he is a bit superstitious but still enjoyed reading it in that setting.

  • (56:58) Zelda interrupts the live stream and she burps a couple of times into the microphone and she’s growling at Maude.

  • (1:34:31) Oddball comments in the chat and said that she is more tied to Gideon because there was a previous Gideon. So there are similarities between the two.
