June 2022 Selection: ‘The Priory of the Orange Tree’ by Samantha Shannon

Maude’s June selection is a doozy of a book and one of the biggest books the community has read this year. This month the community has chosen, The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon! Every month Maude chooses a new Fantasy or Sci-Fi novel with our book club. She uses Good Reads to keep everything in one space.

About the author

Samantha Shannon studied English Language and Literature at St. Anne’s College, Oxford. She was born in West London in 1991 and started writing in abundance when she was twelve. The Bone Season, the first in a seven-book series, was a New York Times bestseller and the inaugural Today Book Club selection.

Talking Points

  • (12:14) Maude expresses her first impressions of The Priory of the Orange Tree and says that there is overwhelming information right out of the gate and the community agrees with her. But once you get past a certain point, it flows better.

  • (48:22) Maude is confused about the kiss that happened because she didn’t feel as if there was any tension between the two of them or any build-up to that moment.
