Maude’s Book Club Questions For ‘Divine Rivals’ by Rebecca Ross

The world has rediscovered the beauty of being part of a community. More book clubs are popping up everywhere, and people have gotten into reading. Whether it was a book club that helped you or #BookTok, the new craze is most welcome.

We love having discussions at MBC! Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross stole our hearts in February. For those who love to write and those who enjoy reading historical fiction, this fantasy romance is the perfect mixture for all readers.

Maude’s Book Club became engaged with the story between Iris and Kitt because of the development of their relationship. It is enemies-to-lovers and its beautifully written passages explore one’s true self through anonymity and vulnerability.

We thought it would be nice to share the questions we have prepared for our book club with all of you. That way, if you enjoy the thought-provoking questions that come with reading a book and going into detail, you’ll join us for next month’s pick!

Book Club Questions For
‘Divine Rivals’

  • Who is your favourite character?

  • When should Roman have told Iris?

  • Should Iris know that her mysterious pen pal is Roman C. Kitt? She’s read all his public work and private notes once, and is a writer herself so shouldn’t it be obvious who Carver is?

  • KP DUBBS on Fable: “It cracks me up how everyone but Iris can see the painfully obvious attraction between her and Roman. Does this common trope work?

  • Rachel on Fable: Why doesn’t he want her to finish the letter he technically wrote?

  • She visits him, showing him the letters. He insists that everything he said was true. “You LIED to me!” - Was he lying for not telling who he was?

  • How do we feel about Forest? Is his behaviour understandable?

  • KP DUBBS on Fable: How much free will does Forest have as an Agent of Dacre?

  • How did the second half differ from the first half?

  • Do you like how Iris found out Roman’s identity?

  • What was believable/annoying about the reveal/their relationship?

  • Do you feel Marisol/Attie have enough purpose in the plot?
