Top 10 Queer Couples From Books
Happy Pride Month!!
Everyone wins when there is representation in books and other forms of media. It’s important to show different forms of love, sexual identity and orientation. Readers can discover something new about themselves without even realizing it after connecting with a character. The book becomes something special to them; more importantly, they will share what they’ve learned with others.
If You Like ‘Ruthless Vows’ Add These To Your TBR!
Our BONUS BOOK of the month is Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross.
When we first read Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross in February the historical fiction combined with fantasy was refreshing. The enemies-to-lovers story between Iris and Roman was delightful to read because of how heartfelt it was. The letters shared between them were romantic and intimate because they were being vulnerable with one another. Anonymity can help everyone be brave, especially with love.
Ranking The ‘Bridgerton’ Couples
The Bridgerton siblings all find their spotlight in each novel. Quinn wanted to make her characters memorable, so she named them in order of the alphabet. It’s quite cheeky and very effective. Now with the hype of the Netflix Original Series fans of the show have turned to the books.
Julia Quinn’s ability to write a sweet love story with such character depth and spicy moments between them is unmatched. It’s easy to get through one of her books because of her love for these characters. Of course, some love stories are better than others, but that comes down to romantic preference.
If You Like ‘Dark Age’ By Pierce Brown
We have followed this series for book club and have plenty of HOWLERS in our discord community. Maude Garrett has had in-depth discussions with Pierce Brown for every single book in the series and he has had some well-needed insight.
If you are a fan of the Red Rising Saga, there are more fantasy/sci-fi books out there to pick up. Dark Age may feel like a heavy read because it’s 704 pages, but Brown makes it feel like a breeze. There’s so much to tackle in this fifth instalment.
If You Like ‘Artemis’ by Andy Weir Add These To Your TBR
This is the third novel by Weir that we’ve read for book club. We love his humour and the way he explores space in an approachable way for readers.
We have more recommendations if you’ve always been fascinated with space and the themes of loneliness, survival and artificial intelligence. Some of the books listed below cross genres and incorporate horror and fantasy.
If You Like ‘Ripley’ Add These To Your TBR
The new limited series Ripley, on Netflix, is adapted by Steve Zaillian and is being considered the best adaptation of her crime series The Talented Mr. Ripley. Whether you read her book series or enjoyed the 1999 film, the world Highsmith created is incredible. The characters are complex and well-rounded to the point where you feel like you truly know them.
The 10 Best Sci-Fi Novels Based in Space
This month our bonus book is Artemis by Andy Weir!
We’ve enjoyed reading his other books, The Martian and Project Hail Mary for book club in previous years. Weir is cheeky with his writing and perfectly captures isolation in outer space. We don’t realize the emptiness one can feel out there in endless darkness, and Weir is one author who transports you to that place.
The 10 Most Anticipated Spring 2024 Releases
Spring is here!
And that means another quarter of the most-anticipated novels to look forward to! If you’re a mood reader, there is always a shift in the spring. If you’re like me, there’s a shift to more light-hearted romances that catch your eye. For this spring season, there are debut novels from authors, and other authors have returned with another great addition to their bookography.
If You Like ‘The Three-Body Problem’ Add These To Your TBR
The new Netflix series The Three-Body Problem is based on the critically acclaimed novel by Cixin Liu. The eight-episode series breaks down the novel and also sets up the next two books in the series. If you are a diehard science fiction fan, this new series will get you onboard to read the trilogy.
Like any science fiction novel that deals with aliens, it can be dense at times with a lot of over-explaining and scientific jargon that may not make sense. However, once the foundation for the three-body problem concept is built, the story falls into place.
To this day The Three-Body Problem is regarded as one of the best science fiction trilogies.
Top 5 Poetry Books To Add To Your TBR
MBC wanted to highlight important poetry books that have stood the test of time. Instead of short stories and novels, poems have been short anecdotes and powerful messages that have travelled from country to country.
If You Like ‘The Bite’ by Z.W. TAYLOR Add These To Your TBR
Last year, Z.W. Taylor sent a copy of her book to Maude Garrett with a sweet handwritten note. Garrett enjoyed reading the book and she wanted to share the enjoyment with the community. The Bite has been a topic of discussion on the discord and our community has enjoyed reading it.
